Adams Electric Company is one of the most established electrical contractors in the Southeast United States. Adams specialized in design-build projects, spec-bids and maintenance contracts for clients in the pharmaceutical, institutional, healthcare, large technology, and industrial sectors. Adams has three offices located across the Carolinas (Charlotte, Raleigh and Reidsville) and over 300 employees, Adams delivers professional service in our chosen markets.
Adams Electric was founded in 1928 by M.E Adams who had moved to North Carolina while working for White Electric in Atlanta Georgia. During the 1940's and 1950's, Mr. Adams primary focus was the textile industry with customers such as Fieldcrest Cannon, Cone Mills, and Burlington Industries.
Over the next several decades Mr. Adams expanded his business by servicing new customers with historical ties to the Carolinas. Growth with the furniture, tobacco, brick, and food processing industries along with the continued expansion of the textiles business allowed Adams to grow as these markets grew. Adams was a preferred contractor as they began to travel all over the southeast United States building new facilities at the request of the customer. As the Company's business expanded, Mr. Adams daughter Mitchelene A. Martin and his two son-in-laws J.B. Martin and Lou Tatarski joined the Company in the early 50's.
The Company was incorporated in North Carolina in 1959 and received license #196U, which we continue to operate under today. After the death of Mr. Adams in 1972, the Company continued under the joint ownership of Mr. Adam's two daughters and by their respective husbands. Mitchelene Martin was named President and CEO in 1972, and remained President until 1991 when she and her son purchased the entire Company and named Johns Martin as President.
Adams Electric is a (MWBE) Minority and Women Business Enterprise recognized by the Historically Underutilized Business with more than 51% being woman owned.
In the early 90's it was apparent to the Senior Management team that globalization and the influx of imports was beginning to negatively effect the US manufacturing sector. Adams realized that this issued would continue to get worse and that all manufacturing business and especially textiles would be severely impacted by lower labor costs in other countries. Recognizing this, Adams decided to expand their horizons in other markets.
In 1998 the decision was made to expand into the Raleigh NC market to begin concentrating on those types of industries represented in Raleigh's Research Triangle Park such as technology, research, and pharmaceutical. This transition was accomplished through the dedicated efforts of Adams management and field employees who made the necessary adjustments to maintain the high level of customer satisfaction as we introduced new employees to the Adams family foundation of electrical expertise.
To continue the diversification geographically, Adams hired Phillip Parrish to open a new office in Charlotte N.C. to enable Adams to concentrate on serving our growing customer base in that area.
Currently, Adams Electric Company remains a respected leader in our industry as we reach our 80th year in business. Our focus remains on serving our customers through the highest quality and service delivered by our professional management team and our trained and dedicated field employees.
